Announcing my 30-Day Paleo Challenge!
I’m not very good at moderation. So despite well-knowing the benefits of living paleo, Mark Sisson’s 80% rule typically and quickly becomes 70%, 50%, 30%…until I’m eating (gluten-free) waffles for breakfast, cornbread for a snack, (gluten-free) cupcakes and fudge, a drink or two and then some coffee for good measure. The same trends holds for sleep/work/play ratios. The trouble is that self-control is a limited resource — scientific fact — and that dealing with lots of stress, no matter the source, reduces your ability to do what you know is best.
End result: I’ve felt like crap for quite awhile, my productivity has worsened and despite claims otherwise, I haven’t been close to paleo for awhile.
Going to change that, though.
For me, going full-tilt is actually easier because I don’t have to think about what to do or eat. All of those choices are pre-made. So, for the next 30-days, I’m only going to eat: meat and veggies (and a little fruit and nuts). So no grains, legumes, dairy, sugar, coffee, alcohol.
I’ve also made arrangements to up my sleeping schedule (to a full night’s sleep every night - novel idea) and get some more personal time/relaxation time.
I’ll be updating my progress here over the next 30 days, including some before and after measurements. Stay tuned!
